Product details

Background & context

The British Army gained extensive combat experience against French troops in Spain and Portugal during the Peninsular War. Veteran formations often stood for better discipline, reliable firepower, and robust fighting morale. The reference to the battles for Oporto and Grijo refers to British operations in 1809. Such troops are particularly suitable for experienced contingents in smaller and larger Napoleonic scenarios.

On the tabletop

The figures represent men of the 3rd Battalion of Detachments, stragglers from Sir John Moore's army who fought at Grijo during the Douro campaign of 1809. In Black Powder you can field them as a small British unit in Peninsular War scenarios, or as an experienced group in small actions. Their counterpart is the French Butchers under de Rochebaron, whom they met at Grijo. For that action, set the two groups against each other.
