    Product details

    Background & context

    On the tabletop

The National Guard in firing poses shows what these citizen soldiers could do in 1792: at Valmy they withstood the cannonade but could not manage an orderly attack. In Black Powder you therefore deploy the 20 firing guardsmen in line or behind cover and let them shoot rather than sending them into melee. An officer, an NCO, a musician and a standard bearer lead the unit. Later the Republic mixed such battalions with line troops.
