Background & context

The Natal Native Contingent was recruited from local African forces and served British operations in Southern Africa. The formation was in the context of the Anglo-Zulu War and reflects the complex colonial military structure of the British forces. Its equipment and organization differed significantly from regular British line infantry. As a result, the regiment offers an important historical contrast to British Redcoats and Zulu warriors.

On the tabletop

The 32 figures let you field a regiment of the Natal Native Contingent, the African auxiliary force of the British in the Zulu War, for Black Powder. Only a small share of the men had rifles; the rest fought with spear and shield, told apart from the Zulus only by a red headband. In your army the regiment supports the British redcoats and holds flanks and camp positions, for example at Isandlwana or Ulundi. The booklet included contains its Black Powder profile.
