Product details

Background & context

From 1812 the Russian line infantry wore the new kiver shako, the outward sign of an army that was changing over from retreat to the offensive. After the winter of 1812 the same regiments marched through East Prussia and Saxony, fought at Bautzen, Dresden and Leipzig and stood before Paris in 1814. Western observers marvelled less at the training than at the toughness of these men, who had passed from serfdom into lifelong service.

On the tabletop

In the kiwer shako worn from 1812, this regiment represents the Russian line infantry of the late campaigns against Napoleon for Black Powder. The 24 plastic and metal figures make musketeers or grenadiers with a command group at their head. Fitting battles are Bautzen, Dresden and Leipzig through to the march on Paris in 1814. French officers admired the tenacity of this infantry in the face of artillery fire, cavalry charges and attack columns.
