Product details

Background & context

The Polish cavalry enjoyed an excellent reputation in the Napoleonic era - their horsemen were considered experienced, daring, and battle-hardened. Confrontations with mounted steppe warriors from the East had familiarized Polish units early on with the use of long lances, which offered a decisive range advantage over sabers and bayonets. As part of Napoleon's forces, Polish lancers fought on almost all major theaters of war - from the Iberian Peninsula deep into Russia. Their colorful uniform and the distinctive czapka headpiece made them one of the most striking appearances of the era.

On the tabletop

Raised in the Duchy of Warsaw, Polish lancers rode for Napoleon and were feared light horsemen thanks to their long lances. The box provides twelve plastic riders plus a metal officer with horse, an arm for a trumpeter and extra Polish heads in metal. Their lances outreach enemy sabres. In Black Powder you group them into a Polish brigade of their own or mix them into the light cavalry of your French army.
