Background & context

Das Königreich der Vereinigten Niederlande existierte 1815 erst seit Monaten, und seine Armee war ein Flickenteppich aus Veteranen, die eben noch für Napoleon marschiert waren, und frisch ausgehobenen Milizbataillonen. Der Prinz von Oranien führte diese Truppen auf Wellingtons linkem Flügel. Ihr Ruf war lange schlecht, doch bei Quatre Bras hielten die Batterien den Straßenknoten, bis britische Verstärkungen eintrafen.

On the tabletop

For a Dutch-Belgian foot battery of 1815 the 6-pounder is the standard gun, supplied here with four gunners in Warlord Resin Plus. Six such cannon and two howitzers made up a battery, each attached to a brigade. In Black Powder you place the gun beside your brigade's infantry and use its direct fire to keep the ground in front of the line clear. Quatre Bras, where the batteries held the crossroads until the British arrived, makes a fitting scenario.
