Background & context

In 1807 the Polish army adopted the French organisation and with it the principle of elite companies. Each battalion fielded one grenadier and one voltigeur company: the tallest men, in bearskin cap or tall czapka with a red plume, on the right flank, and the smallest, most agile, with yellow and green distinctions, as skirmishers on the left. In action, grenadiers from several battalions were often drawn together into assault columns, while voltigeurs fanned out in front of the line and held villages and the edges of woods. At Raszyn in 1809 and in Russia in 1812 these companies bore the heaviest losses.

On the tabletop

The 40 grenadiers and voltigeurs of the Duchy of Warsaw stand on individual round bases and give your Polish battalions their elite companies. You can group the grenadiers into assault columns or place them on the flank of the line, while the voltigeurs spread out in front and hold villages. Command figures lead the detachments. Together with Polish line infantry you can field the Duchy's troops for the Napoleonic campaigns from 1807.
