    Product details

    Background & context

William Congreve developed his rocket from Indian models that British troops had captured in Mysore: a sheet-iron tube filled with black powder, an explosive shell at the front and a long wooden guide stick at the back. It was fired from frames and stands, and only a fraction of what an equivalent battery would have needed had to be transported for it. The weapon was never accurate. In return, hardly anything else in the entire war caused panic quite so reliably.

    On the tabletop

This rocket frame comes with four crew and gives your British army in Black Powder long-range fire with an uncertain outcome. William Congreve developed the rocket from 1808 on the basis of examples captured in Mysore: an iron tube full of powder, an explosive head and a long wooden stick. It was inaccurate but powerful, and easier to supply than an equivalent battery of guns. You place the frame behind your line and bombard closed formations from a distance.
