Product details

Background & context

In the Peninsular War the British infantry usually fought in a line two ranks deep, while the French liked to attack in deep columns. The line let every musket fire, the column only its front ranks. Wellington often posted his battalions behind ridges, sheltered from artillery, and had them step forward only just before contact, fire a volley and follow up with the bayonet. At Bussaco in 1810 several French attacks failed this way.

On the tabletop

Grubb matches the rest of Warlord's 28mm Napoleonic figures in scale, including the plastic British line infantry kits. Swap him in for a figure from the sprue in a finished battalion, ideally in the rear rank or on a flank, where he catches the eye without breaking up the line. In Black Powder this changes nothing about stats or formation, only the look on the table.
