    Product details

    Background & context

Throughout the war Lisbon was the port through which men, powder and mail arrived from Britain. To secure this base, Wellington had the Lines of Torres Vedras built north of the city in 1809 and 1810, a chain of redoubts across hills and valleys. When Massena's army arrived before them in October 1810, it found no way through and withdrew after a starving winter. The French never seriously returned to Portugal after that.

    On the tabletop

Nation comes into his own when you gather several figures from the range into a small unit of their own. Together with the other veterans he forms a detachment battalion that takes on the French Peninsular veterans led by de Rochebaron in Black Powder. If you want to refight the action at Grijo in 1809, the two groups give you matching opponents on the table.
