Product details

Background & context

In the British infantry the sergeants carried the daily life of a company. They drilled recruits, handed out rations and guard duties, and in battle stood behind the line to fill gaps and push waverers back into place. Reading and writing were part of the job, as they kept rolls and reports. Officers valued experienced sergeants, since order under fire rested on them.

On the tabletop

A sergeant belongs on the flank or behind the rear rank of his unit, where in battle he closed up the files. That makes Postlethwaite a good fit for the command base of a British battalion in Black Powder, alongside an officer and the colours. In smaller scenarios he leads a detachment of a dozen veterans, perhaps holding a bridge until the battalion comes up.
