Product details

Background & context

Wellington knew his army could only survive in Spain if it paid for what it took. The Commissariat bought grain and cattle from the local people, and ox carts and long mule trains brought biscuit, flour and rum to the troops. Meat followed the army on the hoof. The French by contrast lived off the land, which fed Spanish hatred and left their supply lines at the mercy of the guerrillas.

On the tabletop

When you paint Makepeace, he can look like a man with long service behind him: faded red, patched trousers in grey or brown, odd bits of kit. In the Peninsula the men replaced worn out clothing with whatever they could find. On the table such a figure stands apart from freshly painted battalions. In Black Powder you put him in a British line unit or form a ragged band of your own with the other veterans.
