Product details

Background & context

Until 1813 British soldiers in the Peninsula mostly slept in the open, wrapped in greatcoat and blanket. Tents were only issued in numbers for the campaign that led to Vitoria. Food was cooked in heavy iron kettles shared by several men and carried by the soldiers themselves until then. Rain, cold in the mountains and fever wore the army down so badly that disease cost more men over the whole war than the enemy did.

On the tabletop

McGrew works well away from the firing line, in a bivouac scene with campfire, blankets and cooking kettle that you set up as the objective of a raid scenario. If French skirmishers or dragoons attack the camp, a unit has to form up out of the scene. In a regular Black Powder game you place him in a British line unit for variety.
