Product details

Background & context

A British infantry battalion had ten companies, including a grenadier and a light company on the flanks. Each company was led by a captain with one or two subalterns and a few sergeants. In the field, sickness and casualties often reduced a company to a few dozen men. If the major and lieutenant-colonel were lost, the senior captain took over the whole battalion.

On the tabletop

Dowd comes into his own in a company-level action. Each Black Powder unit then represents a company rather than a whole battalion, and Dowd stands behind them on his own base as their commander. Through him you issue the orders that move his companies and send them forward. The further they stray from him, the harder those orders are to carry out, so you are better off keeping your men together.
