Background & context

When Napoleon returned from Elba in March 1815, the Seventh Coalition had less than three months. On 18 June Wellington's army lay on the ridge at Mont-Saint-Jean, the battalions sheltered behind the crest, and held for nine hours until Blücher's Prussians arrived from the east. All the while the redcoats stood in the rain, in the mud and in square after square against Ney's cavalry. The Belgic shako and a high proportion of Peninsular veterans are the two features by which you recognise British infantry of this campaign.

On the tabletop

With 20 redcoats and four command figures you can field a British line battalion of the 1815 campaign for Black Powder. An officer, a drummer and two ensigns lead the battalion, and the sheet of 14 regimental flags lets you choose the regiment. At Quatre Bras and Waterloo the battalions stand in line for the firefight and form square against cavalry. With further boxes and artillery you build a brigade of Wellington's army.
