Background & context

Das Königreich der Vereinigten Niederlande war 1815 kaum ein Jahr alt, als seine Reiter bei Waterloo antreten mussten. Die schwere Brigade unter General Trip van Zoudtlandt bestand aus einem belgischen und zwei niederländischen Regimentern, und viele der Männer hatten kurz zuvor noch französische Uniformen getragen. Poliertes Helmblech und blaue Röcke machten die Belgier zur auffälligsten Erscheinung der alliierten Reiterei. Auf dem Feld blieb es nicht bei der Parade: Am 18. Juni ritten sie mehrere Attacken gegen die Franzosen.

On the tabletop

Twelve mounted carabiniers in Warlord Resin represent the Belgian regiment of the Netherlands heavy brigade of 1815. Under General Trip van Zoudtlandt this brigade charged the French several times at Waterloo; its other two regiments were Dutch. In Black Powder the unit is heavy cavalry for a closed charge against a line that has already been weakened. Bases and a flag sheet are included, even though colours were most likely not carried at Waterloo.
