    Product details

    Background & context

The Austrian cavalry was divided into heavy and light arms which, in the field, could hardly be told apart any longer by the cut of the uniform but quite clearly by the headgear. Cuirassiers wore the crested helmet and the cuirass on the chest only, dragoons the same helmet without a cuirass, and the chevauxlegers grew out of the light dragoons of the period before 1801. On the march the white breeches disappeared under grey overalls, because anything else was unusable after two weeks.

    On the tabletop

All 14 riders sit in the saddle in campaign dress with overalls, and the helmet decides the type. With the crested helmet and breastplate they become cuirassiers, without the cuirass dragoons, and with their own helmet chevauxlegers. An officer, trumpeter and optional standard bearer form the command. You keep the cuirassiers in reserve for the charge, while dragoons and chevauxlegers cover flanks and scout for your Austrian army between 1798 and 1815.
