Product details

Background & context

Every Austrian line regiment maintained two grenadier divisions, which in wartime were detached from their regiments and combined into independent grenadier battalions. These battalions formed the army's reserve and were committed where a decision was at stake, for instance at Aspern, at Wagram and in the Wars of Liberation. Their bearskin caps set them clearly apart from the white-uniformed line.

On the tabletop

Keep the Austrian grenadiers in reserve behind your line and commit them where the battle is decided. Historically they were drawn from their regiments into separate battalions, for example at Aspern and Wagram. Most of the 48 men march at the charge, while some can be built firing, loading or as a sergeant. Two officers with colours and drums plus two mounted colonels form the command for games from 1798 to 1815.
