Background & context

Im Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg (1701-1714) führte John Churchill, Herzog von Marlborough, die alliierten Heere gegen Frankreich. Seine Reiterei setzte er anders ein als damals üblich: nicht als Feuerwaffe zu Pferd, sondern als geschlossene Masse, die im Galopp mit blankem Degen in die gegnerische Linie ritt. Bei Blenheim 1704 und Ramillies 1706 entschied genau dieser Stoß den Ausgang der Schlacht.

On the tabletop

This plastic sprue carries riders without horses, with torsos with and without cuirass, a choice of heads and weapon arms. Only together with the horse sprue of the same range do they become complete cavalrymen. In Black Powder or Pike & Shotte this lets you fill exactly the gaps still open in your cavalry regiments. For the War of the Spanish Succession they represent horsemen who, as at Blenheim in 1704, charged in close order with cold steel.
