Background & context

Marlboroughs Feldzüge gehören in den Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg, in dem die Alliierten zwischen 1701 und 1714 gegen Ludwig XIV. antraten. John Churchill gewann bei Blenheim, Ramillies, Oudenaarde und Malplaquet und galt als der fähigste Feldherr seiner Zeit. Artillerie war damals noch schwer beweglich: Die Geschütze kamen vor der Schlacht in Stellung und blieben dort meist stehen. Ein 8- oder 12-Pfünder sollte gegnerische Bataillone aufreißen, bevor die eigene Infanterie in Salvenfeuer-Reichweite kam.

On the tabletop

A single sprue for armies of the War of the Spanish Succession: one gun, four gunners, a mounted officer and accessories such as powder kegs and buckets. You build the barrel as an 8- or 12-pounder. In Black Powder the gun deploys before the battle and bombards enemy battalions before your infantry closes to volley range. The officer serves as a brigade commander, so the sprue adds to an existing battery and to your command.
