Background & context

Im Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg von 1701 bis 1714 stritt halb Europa darum, wer in Madrid regiert. Ludwig XIV. setzte dafür die größte Armee des Kontinents in Bewegung, und sie kämpfte nicht nur französisch: bayerische Regimenter standen in seiner Linie, dazu die Wild Geese, irische Exilanten in französischen Diensten. Gefochten wurde mit Steinschlossmuskete und Bajonett in dichten Bataillonen, flankiert von Grenadierkompanien - eine Taktik, die bei Blenheim und Malplaquet furchtbare Rechnungen schrieb.

On the tabletop

For the War of the Spanish Succession this set gives you a battalion of Louis XIV made up of 20 musketeers, an officer, a drummer and two standard bearers. Depending on heads, pouches and flags it becomes French line infantry, a Bavarian regiment, the Irish Wild Geese or the Gardes Françaises. Four musketeers can be converted into grenadiers if you wish. In Black Powder or Pike & Shotte the battalion stands in close line with flintlock and bayonet.
