    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The War of the Spanish Succession at the beginning of the 18th century was one of the last major conflicts in which mounted troops still played a decisive role on the battlefield. Louis XIV's cavalry was among the most experienced and diverse mounted units of its time - from heavily armored cuirassiers to mounted grenadier troops, who were considered elite units. At the same time, opposing tactical schools developed: while some units relied on controlled pistol fire during charges, Marlborough insisted on uncompromising saber charges at full gallop. This variety of weaponry, equipment, and tactics makes early 18th-century cavalry a particularly multifaceted subject for historical wargamers.

Grenadiers bring the character of a strong, elite infantry to the table. The focus is on conflicts of the Early Modern period.
