    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    Marlborough's wars and the War of the Spanish Succession mark a transitional period for European armies around 1700. Artillery was effective but difficult to move and was usually positioned before battle. Trained artillerymen were relatively rare, which is why soldiers from the ranks were also used to operate or move the guns. The box depicts this early field artillery with cumbersome guns, operating crews, and mounted officers.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    The Artillery Battery represents early field artillery for Marlborough's Wars and the War of the Spanish Succession. In Black Powder, it provides fire support to battle lines and is suitable for stationary or slowly deployed gun positions. In Sharp Practice, individual guns and officers can be used as scenario elements or smaller batteries. The mounted officers also provide command personnel for early modern armies.
