Product details

Background & context

When the first T-34s appeared in 1941, the Wehrmacht found itself without effective mobile anti-tank defence. The stopgap: mount captured Soviet 7.62cm guns on the chassis of the Czech Panzer 38(t), rechambered for German ammunition. Later series received the PaK 40. The superstructure remained open-topped and thinly armoured, but it was quick to build and hit hard. Around 1,580 Marder IIIs came off the line and served until 1945 on the Eastern and Western Fronts as well as in North Africa.

On the tabletop

The Marder III is a tank destroyer for German army lists on the Eastern and Western fronts and in North Africa, where it was one of the few answers to the heavily armoured Matilda. Its gun hits hard, but the open-topped fighting compartment gives the crew little protection. So drive it into a covered position, take the first shot and stay away from enemy infantry. It works in Bolt Action and Achtung Panzer!, and decals and damage markers are included.
