    Same hull as the Lee, different head: the Grant was given a lower, cast turret to British specification with the radio in the turret rear. A plastic vehicle kit with decal sheet and vehicle card.

    Background & context

    The British did not order the M3 the way the US Army drove it. Their turret was flatter, likewise cast, and housed the radio at the rear so that the commander could operate it himself, which is how the designation Grant came about. In May 1942 at Gazala the first appeared in larger numbers, and for the first time in North Africa German crews faced an opponent that fired high-explosive shells at long range. Later the type went to Burma, where Japanese tanks had nothing to set against it.

    On the tabletop

    The Grant is the M3 with a British turret, and in Bolt Action it is a medium tank with an anti-tank gun in the hull, a lighter gun in the turret and a machine gun. From 1942 it fits British and Australian lists for the Western Desert, and later for Burma, where Japanese tanks had little to set against it. Its high-explosive rounds cover your infantry as it advances. In Achtung Panzer! you play it with the rules from the Iron Coffins supplement.
