    Background & context

    The American tank destroyer doctrine of 1942 relied on fast, lightly armoured vehicles that were meant to intercept German armoured spearheads. The M10 was its first result ready for series production: its M7 gun in 3-inch calibre beat anything a Sherman carried at the time. In return, 37 millimetres of armour and the open-topped turret left it vulnerable to artillery splinters and fire from higher positions, which is why crews preferred to fire from covered positions. The British Army adopted the type and fielded it as the Wolverine.

    On the tabletop

    Bolt Action rates the M10 as a light tank armed with a heavy anti-tank gun, for American and British armoured platoons. Its 3-inch gun outclasses the Sherman's 75 mm, but thin armour and an open-topped turret leave it vulnerable. So you play it defensively, firing from concealed positions. With US or British crew and matching decals it becomes an American M10 or a British Wolverine. Achtung Panzer! includes it too.
