    Background & context

    Wer 1791 als Offizier oder Adliger Frankreich verließ, stand bald in fremdem Sold. Die Emigranten stellten eigene Verbände auf, meist finanziert von London oder Wien, und dienten dort, wo die Koalition leichte Truppen brauchte. Chasseurs kämpften in loser Ordnung, in Hecken und an Waldrändern, wo Ortskenntnis mehr zählte als Bataillonsdrill. Ihre Treue galt dem gestürzten Königshaus - ein Krieg von Franzosen gegen Franzosen.

    On the tabletop

    Light infantry of the royalist French exiles: 20 randomly selected chasseurs plus a command with standard bearer and musician under an officer and an NCO. Their place in Black Powder is in front of the main line, where as skirmishers they occupy hedges and woodland edges and keep enemy marksmen busy. Paid by London or Vienna, such units were used wherever light infantry was lacking, so you add them to a British or Austrian army.
