Background & context

William Augustus war der jüngere Sohn Georgs II. und mit Mitte zwanzig bereits Oberbefehlshaber. Nach dem Rückzug der Jakobiten führte er die Regierungsarmee nach Norden und stellte sie im April 1746 bei Culloden. Die Schlacht war in weniger als einer Stunde entschieden. Was danach im Hochland folgte, trug ihm in Schottland den Beinamen Butcher ein, während man ihn in London feierte.

On the tabletop

William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, led the government army north in 1746 and defeated the Jacobites at Culloden in less than an hour. As a mounted metal command model he gives your redcoats in Black Powder a named commander-in-chief. He also fits games set on the Continent, where he was wounded at Dettingen and commanded against the French at Fontenoy. Opposite him you field Bonnie Prince Charlie and his clans.
