    Product details

    Background & context

The Breda M37 was Italy's heavy machine gun of the Second World War: air-cooled, in 8 mm calibre, and fed from rigid strips rather than a belt. Changing strips slowed the rate of fire, but in return the weapon coped with the dust and heat of North Africa better than many a rival design. Alongside it came medium mortars, with which the paratroopers reached targets in hollows and behind dune crests. For formations with almost no tank support, this accompanying fire was often the only lever for stopping an attack.

    On the tabletop

This box makes a complete heavy weapons platoon for Italian paratroopers in Bolt Action. The two tripod-mounted Breda M37s act as medium machine guns and cover approaches and open ground with sustained fire. The medium mortar lobs high-explosive rounds onto enemies behind cover. An officer commands the three teams, so they stand as a platoon of their own next to your paratrooper squads.
