Product details

Background & context

When it became clear in North Africa that the M13/40 achieved little against British tanks, the mountain howitzer Obice da 75/18 was simply moved onto its chassis. The result was low, mobile and considerably harder-hitting than the tank it was derived from. In Sicily the Semovente was often the only Italian vehicle that could really hold up Allied formations. After the armistice of 1943 the Wehrmacht took over the remaining vehicles and went on using them in Italy and the Balkans.

On the tabletop

The Semovente da 75/18 is a low-built Italian self-propelled gun that fought alongside the medium tanks in North Africa and on Sicily. Its short 75 mm howitzer supports the infantry against positions and, firing HEAT rounds, can also penetrate Grants and Shermans. In your games it therefore provides fire support and anti-tank capability at once. After 1943 the Wehrmacht also used it in Italy and the Balkans. Hatches and crew are optional.
