Product details

Background & context

The M13/40 took its cue from the British Vickers 6-Ton: riveted steel plates, engine at the rear, gearbox at the front, a crew of four. Its 47 mm gun was derived from the 47/32 anti-tank gun and penetrated around 45 millimetres of steel at 500 metres, enough for British cruiser tanks, too little against the heavy infantry tanks. More than 3,000 vehicles of the series came off the line, later as the M14/41 and M15/42. The command version, the Semovente Comando M40, dispensed with the turret and took on additional radio sets instead.

On the tabletop

The M13/40 is the medium tank of your Italian force in Greece and North Africa. Its 47 mm gun is good enough against British light and cruiser tanks, but not against the heavy infantry tanks, which you are better off avoiding. If you fit the multi-part hatch instead of the turret, you get the Semovente Comando M40 command vehicle with additional radios. Only one of the two versions can be built from the kit.
