    Background & context

    After the advance into Russia, the war for the German infantry shifted from mobile combat to a struggle for blocks of houses, factory halls and patches of woodland. Those who survived that fought differently: shorter ranges, more hand grenades, more submachine guns, captured Soviet ones among them, because supply seldom kept up. Assault engineers with flamethrower and demolition charge became the tool for every fortified point, and the MG34 remained the pivot of every squad. This mixture shapes the picture of the Wehrmacht between 1941 and 1943.

    On the tabletop

    This plastic platoon is built for close-quarters fighting of the kind German infantry fought on the Eastern Front and at Stalingrad. From 30 figures you build a platoon commander, Heer squads, Sturmpioniere with flamethrower and grenade launcher or Feldgendarmerie, plus anti-tank rifle, flamethrower or medium machine gun teams on the three 60 mm bases. The two MG34s give the squads firepower, while MP40s and captured Soviet SMGs give them punch at close range. Wall sections dress your bases.
