Hintergrund & Einordnung

The German army entered World War II with a battle-hardened core of officers, NCOs, and experienced enlisted men. At the platoon and company level, command structures and heavy weapon teams formed the backbone of combat operations. The MG42 (feared by Allied soldiers as "Hitler's Buzz Saw") and the 8cm Granatwerfer 34 provided direct fire support - the mortar with an effective range of 2,400 meters and a rate of fire of 15-20 rounds per minute. Officers and specialists, such as the forward observer, ensured coordination. This composition was found in almost all theaters of war - from the Eastern Front to North Africa.

Einsatz im Spiel

The set covers several important support slots for a Bolt Action army. The two officers are suitable as company or platoon leaders and pass command dice to adjacent units. The MMG team provides reliable suppressive fire against infantry at medium range, while the mortar can engage targets indirectly from behind cover. Forward observer and medic round off the tactical options and can be flexibly integrated into various force lists.
