Product details

Background & context

From autumn 1944 the German infantry looked the same everywhere: the shorter M44 field jacket, because cloth was scarce, along with the Zeltbahn as rain cover and camouflage. What was lacking was supply; what there was plenty of was firepower at short range. The StG 44 gave the individual rifleman more volume of fire than any rifle before it, and the Panzerfaust made every grenadier a danger to a Sherman as soon as he got close enough. That is exactly what the German defence in Italy, Normandy and on the Eastern Front came down to.

On the tabletop

Grenadiers are the basic infantry of German army lists in Bolt Action for 1944 and 1945. The 30 figures give you several squads plus the officers to lead the platoon. StG 44 and MP 40 make squads for close range, while Kar 98K, Gewehr 43 and MG 42 make squads that hold ground and shoot at longer range. Panzerfausts give individual soldiers a weapon against vehicles. A Panzer IV, a StuG or an MG team make good support.
