Background & context

From 1942 Grenadier was the official designation for the German infantry, a traditional name that glossed over the situation. The formations of the second half of the war consisted of veterans of the campaigns in Poland, France and Russia and of replacements who had to learn in weeks what months had once been allowed for. Their equipment mixed the Karabiner 98k with the Sturmgewehr 44, MG 42 and Panzerfaust. The Sd.Kfz. 251/9 was part of it: an armoured personnel carrier with a short 7.5cm gun that drove the firepower of an infantry gun right into the foremost line.

On the tabletop

On the table this box becomes a German list from the second half of the war in which every arm is represented once. The 36 Grenadiers are enough for three squads of ten men, and from the remaining six figures you make up an officer and his escort for the HQ. The heavy weapons squad brings MG 34, MG 42 and the 8cm mortar and gives the infantry covering fire from the second line. Against tanks the Pak 40 waits in position, the Panzer IV is your mobile battle tank, and the Stummel brings its short gun in close to houses and trenches.
