Background & context

Grenadierkompanien bestanden traditionell aus den größten und erfahrensten Männern eines Bataillons und wurden für Sturmangriffe zusammengezogen. Bei den Highland-Regimentern traf diese Rolle auf Truppen, die erst zehn Jahre nach Culloden aus denselben Clans rekrutiert worden waren, die man kurz zuvor noch niedergeschlagen hatte. In Nordamerika kämpften sie unter anderem bei Ticonderoga und vor Quebec. Ihre hohen Fellmützen ersetzten den Bonnet und machten die Kompanie schon aus der Ferne kenntlich.

On the tabletop

Four grenadiers in kilt, short red jacket and mitre-shaped fur cap give your Highland regiment of the French and Indian War a grenadier company. Such companies were made up of the tallest and most experienced men and were gathered for assaults, and that is how you use them in Black Powder too. Historically they suit the 77th Montgomerie's or the 78th Fraser's, which joined the expedition against Quebec in 1759. The tall cap makes them stand out within the unit.
