    Background & context

In 1939 the French army was regarded as the strongest in the world: experienced cadres, heavy artillery and tanks that were technically a match for the German ones. The Blitzkrieg of 1940 did not beat the equipment but the speed of the chain of command. At Hannut, Arras, Boulogne and Saumur individual formations fought back fiercely. After the armistice the army split: Vichy units on one side, de Gaulle's Free French on the other, who came back with the Allies in 1944.

    On the tabletop

For Bolt Action the 30 figures build French infantry in five forms: regular line troops, fortress garrison, chasseurs à pied, engineers or colonial troops from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. With them you can refight the defensive battles of 1940 at Hannut, Arras, Boulogne or Saumur against the German advance. Because the army split after the armistice, the figures also suit Vichy troops or the Free French who returned with the Allies in 1944.
