Background & context

Grenadiere waren die eine Flügelkompanie, die man aus mehreren Bataillonen herauslöste und zu eigenen Sturmverbänden zusammenfasste. In Nordamerika geschah das regelmäßig: Vor Louisbourg 1758 und auf den Abraham-Ebenen bei Quebec 1759 standen zusammengezogene Grenadierbataillone an den heikelsten Stellen. Die Männer waren größer, länger im Dienst und besser bezahlt. Ihre Mitra ersetzte den Dreispitz, weil sie beim Werfen der Handgranate nicht im Weg war.

On the tabletop

Eight British grenadiers, all in firing poses, make a uniform volley line for the French and Indian War. In North America grenadier companies were often drawn from several battalions into units of their own, for example before Louisbourg in 1758 and Quebec in 1759. In Black Powder you field the metal figures as such a grenadier unit and commit them at the most critical points of the battlefield. They are recognisable by the mitre cap in place of the tricorne.
