Product details

Background & context

Eben Emael in 1940 was the masterpiece: a handful of Fallschirmjäger took a fortress regarded as impregnable, and the way west lay open. Crete in 1941 then cost so many men that large airborne operations were cancelled. Small parties stayed in use all the same, for example in the freeing of Mussolini or in raids behind the American lines in the Ardennes. They earned their reputation as Green Devils in the ruins of Monte Cassino, where they held out for months against overwhelming odds.

On the tabletop

These 30 plastic figures build a whole platoon of German Fallschirmjäger, made for Bolt Action in North West Europe and equally for the Eastern Front. Historically their path runs from Eben Emael in 1940 via Crete in 1941 to the months-long defence of Monte Cassino that earned them the name Green Devils. After Crete they mostly fought as infantry on the ground. So you use them above all where a position has to be held stubbornly or an objective has to be retaken.
