Product details

Background & context

Russian Hussars were part of the light cavalry of the Tsarist army during the Crimean War. They were used for reconnaissance, outpost duty, and rapid movements but also participated in regular engagements. The campaign highlighted the limitations of traditional cavalry against modern firepower and difficult terrain.

On the tabletop

Russian hussars belonged to the light cavalry that scouted ahead of the front in the Crimean War and kept contact with the enemy. In Black Powder you use these three metal riders for reconnaissance, rides against the flank and pursuit, but you are better off not sending them head-on against formed infantry. Shako and pelisse came in different colours for each regiment, though most men wore grey greatcoats and covers on campaign. At Balaclava they clashed directly with British cavalry.
