Product details

Background & context

The Crimean War (1853-1856) pitted the Russian army against an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, Great Britain, France, and Sardinia. Russian troops boasted large numbers but often suffered from outdated equipment, slow leadership, and logistical weaknesses. In Crimea, traditional linear tactics met new weapon ranges, siege warfare, and difficult supply situations.

On the tabletop

With these three mounted generals and officers you fill the top command level of your Russian army in the Crimea in Black Powder. They lead your divisions and brigades and give them their orders. Historically the Russian leadership was seen as the army's weak point: Prince Menshikov commanded at the Alma and at Inkerman without keeping his subordinates informed, and initiative was hardly encouraged. You can reflect that ponderous command structure in your scenarios too.
