Product details

Background & context

During the Crimean War, Russian artillery was considered an important component of Tsarist warfare. Concentrated artillery fire was intended to weaken enemy formations before infantry or cavalry continued the attack. However, the range of modern rifled muskets and the well-known episode of the Light Brigade demonstrated the new risks to gun emplacements.

On the tabletop

For Russian Crimean War armies in Black Powder, this set provides a 6-pounder with four Cossack gunners. The Don Cossacks raised their own batteries, whose light guns could keep up with the horsemen. A gun of No. 3 Don Cossack Battery was the objective of the Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava in 1854, and this model lets you represent one of them in that scenario. Alongside Russian cavalry it supports your horsemen with fire.
