Product details

Background & context

The Rifle Brigade provided two battalions in the Crimean War and, according to Warlord, fought at Alma, Inkerman and during the Siege of Sevastopol. The regiment began the campaign with the traditional shako, before the softer field cap was more commonly worn later on. As a rifle formation, it stands for more agile infantry tasks and targeted fire, in contrast to classic line infantry. This set depicts the unit's early Crimean War representation.

On the tabletop

Eight riflemen of the Rifle Brigade in the tall shako show the regiment in its first weeks in the Crimea. In Black Powder you deploy them as skirmishers ahead of your British line regiments, where they fight with aimed individual fire rather than volleys. Two battalions of the brigade fought at the Alma, at Inkerman and in the trenches before Sevastopol. Add the matching command figures in shakos to make a complete unit.
