    Background & context

Leadership in the field was particularly important for Confederate formations, as terrain, smoke, and loud firefights made commands difficult. Officers in advance symbolize the moment a unit is brought into position or led into attack. The combination of mounted and unmounted figures shows two typical levels of leadership within a marching column. Such models can be well combined with infantry regiments.

    On the tabletop

Version B of the advancing Confederate officers again provides one mounted officer and one on foot, but in different poses from set A. Confederate brigades usually advanced with several regiments side by side, each under its own colonel. With both sets, every regiment of your American Civil War brigade gets a leader figure of its own. In Black Powder you can use the rider as a brigade commander and the officer on foot with a regiment on the advance.
