    Background & context

    Die Compagnies franches de la Marine unterstanden nicht dem Kriegs-, sondern dem Marineministerium in Versailles, das für die Kolonien zuständig war. In Kanada stationiert, bildeten sie über Jahrzehnte die einzige stehende Truppe des Landes, und ihre Offiziere stammten oft aus kanadischen Familien, die den Kleinkrieg beherrschten. Ihre Reichweite verdankten sie dem Wasser: Über Sankt Lorenz, Richelieu und die großen Seen brachten Kanubrigaden Männer und Vorräte tief ins Landesinnere.

    On the tabletop

    Canoes carried the Compagnies franches de la Marine along the St. Lawrence, the Richelieu and the Great Lakes deep into the interior. This pack shows two of their soldiers with a resin canoe. In Black Powder you use them in river scenarios, for example landing behind the British line or arriving across the water as reinforcements. Together with Marine companies on foot and Native allies, they form a French force for irregular warfare.
