Background & context

Die Royal Horse Artillery wurde 1793 aufgestellt, damit die britische Kavallerie eine Artillerie bekam, die ihr Tempo mitgehen konnte. Ihre Kanoniere ritten, statt neben dem Geschütz herzulaufen, entsprechend schnell konnte eine Troop die Stellung wechseln. Auf der Iberischen Halbinsel begleitete sie meist die Kavalleriebrigaden und die Leichte Division. Bei Waterloo stand unter anderem Mercers Truppe im Zentrum und feuerte Kartätsche in die anreitenden französischen Reiter.

On the tabletop

With this 6-pounder and its four gunners you field a light gun of the British horse artillery in Black Powder. Because the whole crew was mounted, a troop could change position quickly and accompany the cavalry brigades. On the tabletop the gun therefore follows your horsemen and opens fire wherever an attack is being prepared or beaten off. The Peninsular campaigns and Waterloo are its setting.
