Wellingtons Armee auf der Halbinsel war chronisch arm an Artillerie. Die Wege waren schlecht, Futter für die Zugpferde knapp, und jedes zusätzliche Kaliber bedeutete mehr Logistik. Umso mehr zählte, was da war. Der 9-Pfünder setzte sich im Lauf des Feldzugs gegen die leichteren Rohre durch, weil er auf den Entfernungen der spanischen Ebenen schlicht besser wirkte. Bei Salamanca und Vitoria standen solche Geschütze in den Batterien, die den entscheidenden Vorstößen den Weg bahnten.

On the tabletop

As the heaviest field gun of Wellington in the Peninsula, the 9-pounder gives your British army in Black Powder more reach than the lighter pieces. On the wide plains of Spain it lets you engage enemy columns early, long before they reach your line. Four metal gunners crew the piece. For battles such as Salamanca or Vitoria, place it in the battery that prepares the attack of your infantry.
