Background & context

In der Waterloo-Kampagne war der 6-Pfünder das Standardrohr der britischen Fußbatterien, leicht genug, um im zerschnittenen Gelände zwischen Quatre Bras und Mont-Saint-Jean überhaupt in Stellung zu kommen. Wellington verbot seinen Kanonieren ausdrücklich das Duell mit gegnerischen Batterien: Geschossen wurde auf Infanterie und Kavallerie, nicht auf Rohre. Als die französischen Reiterattacken kamen, feuerten die Bedienungen bis zuletzt und suchten dann Schutz in den Karrees dahinter.

On the tabletop

For the Waterloo campaign of 1815, this 6-pounder with a crew of four is the standard gun of a British foot battery in Black Powder. It is light enough to follow your brigades across broken ground right up to the front line. Like the gunners of Wellington, you fire it at infantry and cavalry rather than at enemy guns. Against cavalry attacks it keeps firing to the last, after which the crew takes shelter in the squares.
