Background & context

Der 6-Pfünder war das Arbeitspferd der britischen Feldartillerie auf der Iberischen Halbinsel. Wellingtons Armee kämpfte dort zwischen 1808 und 1814 meist in der Unterzahl, und die Royal Artillery wurde in Kompanien zu fünf Geschützen und einer Haubitze aufgeteilt, die den Infanteriedivisionen direkt zugeordnet waren. Anders als die französische Massenbatterie feuerte sie selten konzentriert, sondern hielt Abschnitte frei und wartete auf die anmarschierende Kolonne. Kartätsche auf kurze Distanz war ihr wirksamstes Mittel.

On the tabletop

The 6-pounder with four gunners is the standard field gun of a British army in the Peninsula between 1808 and 1814. In Black Powder, deploy it alongside your infantry, where it holds a sector open and waits for advancing columns. At close range it fires canister that can stop an attack at the last moment. Add more cannon and a howitzer and you have a complete Royal Artillery company.
