The British Peninsular Infantry Flank Companies depict the Grenadier and Light Companies of British Regiments in the Peninsular War. The plastic set contains 52 figures with stovepipe shakos, shoulder wings and command options. This allows you to build elite and light companies for Napoleonic battles on the Iberian Peninsula.

Background & context

Schulterflügel waren im britischen Heer kein Zierrat, sondern ein Abzeichen: Sie trugen nur die beiden Flankenkompanien eines Bataillons. Grenadiere rekrutierten sich aus den größten und erfahrensten Männern und wurden für Sturmangriffe angesetzt, während die Leichte Kompanie vor der Linie in aufgelöster Ordnung arbeitete. Auf der Iberischen Halbinsel zog man beide oft aus ihren Bataillonen heraus und fasste sie zu eigenen Grenadier- und Leichten Bataillonen zusammen, die dort kämpften, wo es eng wurde.

On the tabletop

Grenadiers and the light company, marked out by their shoulder wings, form the two flanks of a British battalion. These 52 figures in stovepipe shakos fill the wings of several battalions at once. Send the light infantry ahead of the line in open order and hold the grenadiers back for assaults. In the Peninsula both were often combined into battalions of their own, and a whole box lets you recreate that too.
